Owner of Spencer’s Smokin’ Grill Talks About Feeling the Recession After a Slow Winter

Anyone who has wanted to open a restaurant or who has followed their dreams and made it happen can relate to how hard the restaurant industry can be.  In Park City, it is tougher than most cities.  Costly leases, intense competition, and a tourist-based seasonal economy makes it incredibly difficult for restaurants and cafes to stay in business.  With a growing local resident population, most restaurants survive from word-of-mouth or attracting new patrons with discounts and coupons in the off-seasons.

While America’s economy continues to sag and more families eating at home to save money, Park City’s restaurants are feeling the recession more than ever. One restaurant owner, Mark Spencer, is keeping his hopes up and hanging on for the ride.  Spencer followed his heart and opened up the popular Spencer’s Smokin’ Grill located on Bonanza Drive.  Locally famous for their authentic BBQ and delicious Pulled Pork BBQ sandwiches, Spencer’s offers affordable lunches and dinners without sacrificing taste and consistency.

The Park Record recently interviewed Spencer. In the video, he talks about the struggles of beginning a new restaurant and the leap of faith needed to survive after a slow Winter season, and possibly quieter Summer season.  The interview gives insight into the restaurant industry and shows the effects of America’s recession slowly seeping into Park City.  You can check out Mark Spencer’s Interview here.
