Park City Food and Wine Classic

Now that everyone in Park City has fully nursed their 4th of July hangovers, it’s time to prepare for next weekends festivities! The Park City Food and Wine Classic begins July 9th – 12th and is considered an Epicurean Extravaganza. This year marks it’s 5th year anniversary and proudly supports the Alzheimer’s Association. Premiering master winemakers, culinary artists, and distinguished guests, the Park City Food and Wine Classic is the ultimate high altitude must-attend event of the year.

Allowing Utahn’s to taste the world’s best wines, enjoy fabulous food, and socialize till they drop isn’t the only thing The Classic is known for. They also bring top-notch talent and personalities to help host the event. Professional chefs, Winemakers, Master Sommeliers, and Vineyard Owners will be mingling with the crowds and hosting fantastic seminars and presentations. Culinary celebrities include Joel Butler, Dustin Clark, Gus Magann, Ron Mumford, Steven Rosenberg, Diane Sheya, Brett Zimmerman, David Perkins, and Mary Evans.

With Park City being the home of some of the best restaurants in the country, The Classic is also happy to partner up with many of the famous and delicious restaurants in town.  Most of the restaurants will be giving out samples and hosting their own special diners and wine tastings during the weekend. Participating restaurants include 350 Main, The Cabin, Chez Betty,Chimayo, Easy Street, Ghidotti’s, Grappa, Jean-Louis, The Mustang, Shabu, Stein’s, Wahso, and Windy Ridge.

If you haven’t already secured your tickets, make sure you grab them before they sell out by visiting the Park City Food & Wine Classic official web page. They are offering special ticket packages including a local’s special (only $125), Gift Certificates, and the FOCer (fock-er) “Friends of the Classic” package that gives you access to the ultimate privileges of a VIP ($495). The Classic has an enormous amount of events and it can be somewhat overwhelming to pick and choose. We suggest going to as many as possible, however, if you are only able to make one event, make it to the Toast of Park City Grand Tasting on Saturday. This is The Classic’s signature event and boasts the most wines and entertainment. To help you choose some more, here’s a list of events courtesy of the PC Food & Wine Classic Website. A Toast to Remember Kickoff Celebration

The festival commences on Thursday with the Kickoff Celebration, held at beautiful Red Pine Lodge. Located at the top of The Flight of The Canyons gondola, Red Pine Lodge has breathtaking scenery and majestic vistas to make the Kickoff Celebration a truly memorable way to jumpstart the Wine Classic. The Kickoff Celebration provides unique opportunities to spend one-on-one time with industry experts and delve into a variety of wines, focusing on reserves but also showcasing some everyday selections. Heavy appetizers and live entertainment will make this signature event second to none. The celebration also features a live auction benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mud, Sweat and Cheers

So you decided to attend the wine festival but thought you would have to leave your mtn. bike at home…think again!   This biking/food/wine seminar allows you to ride some of Deer Valley’s most panoramic single tracks that has made it a premier mountain biking destination.  And after a long fun-filled ride, finish it off with a sumptuous lunch served up by Executive Chef and fellow biker Zane Holmquist from Stein Erikson Lodge.  Chef Zane not only leads you on your scenic ride, he’ll be preparing the meal once you dismount and shed the mud.  Did we mention wine?  This is a wine festival of course!  Along for the ride will be owner and wine maker Chris Ferrara from Clesi Winery and owners and vintners Joe Padilla and Dee Erickson from Two Dog Winery.  These wine makers will be discussing their varietals, the wine making process, along with fun stories from the daze ride.  After a day of heavy breathing sit back and allow your wine to breathe while you catch your breath from this unique seminar.  Includes lift ticket for lift rides.

Bubbles and Bites Seminar

If you want to choose the best Champagne for each occasion, you’ll want to know what the main styles are and which ones resonate best with you.  In this seminar, we’ll introduce you to some of the best and widely available brands, while explaining how Champagne is made, why it is different than other sparkling wines, the factors that affect its taste and how to best pair Champagne with food.  Location, Sky Lodge

Wine & Chocolate – A Heavenly Combination

SOLD OUT. Some say it can’t be done, pairing wine with chocolate, but if you have the right wine to complement the right chocolate it can be a match made in heaven! Whether you are pairing a delicate white chocolate or a lively dark chocolate with wine, Diane Sheya, weekly guest chef on Fox 13’s “Live at Eleven News”, puts her own unique twist on this heavenly combination.  Traditionally a sellout, tickets won’t last long for this highly anticipated seminar.

The Wine of Kings and the King of Wines Seminar

A focus on Nebbiolo based wines, we will taste some Barolos and Barbarescos with some Langhe Nebbiolo based wines as well, and explore a wide range of winemaking styles and techniques. Master Sommelier Brett Zimmermann leads the guided tasting and comments on the many different Nebbiolo clones, aging potential, tasting profiles, and the similarities and differences between the Nebbiolo grown in the Langhe and that cultivated in other parts of Italy.

Cook with Tillamook Seminar

Add interest to an entree, charm to a side dish, zip to an appetizer, dash to a dessert or spirit to a sauce with a Tillamook dairy product. Join Dustin Clark, Executive Chef of the renowned Wildwood restaurant, in this interactive seminar and take home some tips and tricks to make your next “homemade meal” a “culinary creation”.

Timeless Cheese Classics for a Modern World Seminar

Each country has a hallmark cheese…join igourmet.com as they guide you through a journey that will reveal the marvels of timeless cheeses that remain staples in today’s modern world. Italy has Parmigiano-Reggiano. France has Roquefort. England has Cheddar the Netherlands has Gouda and Spain has Manchego.  This seminar will give you a chance to taste and learn the history behind the world’s most famous cheeses.

Meander up and down Main Street as you sample great wines and fabulous food at various locations in downtown Park City. Each Stroll stop offers a different variety of wines and delicious culinary samples. This event allows patrons to familiarize themselves with the many restaurants and retailers Park City has to offer.  Thank you to our Stroll hosts, Salt Lake Magazine.

Washington’s world-class wines are grown in a landscape shaped by massive volcanic eruptions followed by catastrophic floods of biblical proportions. Steven Rosenberg (proprietor of Liberty Heights Fresh and specialty food guru) teams up with Vine Lore’s Gus Magann (Certified Wine Educator and classically trained chef ) in exploring the timeless concept of wine with food. They will run the gamut of approaches including a detailed accounting of taste components, classic combinations, and on to the much more non-traditional fun of breaking all the rules. You will definitely come out of this with new favorites, both planned and by accident.

High West at High Noon – at The Canyons

Get a first-hand look at the distilling process from master distiller David Perkins, owner of the brand new state of the art distillery in the heart of Park City.  David will share with you the secrets behind his Double Gold Medal Winning Rendezvous Rye Whiskey and do a little Whiskey Tasting 101 with a number of classic whiskeys.   The folks at High West  invite you to share in their passion for good whiskey, their love for the American West, and gumption to bring spirits back to Utah.

Tasting the Master’s Way Seminar

Don’t know much about wine? Not sure where to begin? This class will teach you how to assess like a pro while sampling major varietals and the countries that they come from in an entertaining, interactive setting. You’ll taste six major varietals of the wine world: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir from the largest wine-producing countries. By assessing the wines through sight, smell, and taste, you’ll learn to identify basic elements of a wine including body, tannin, acidity, sweetness, and other flavor characteristics. You’ll see that this base of knowledge will go a long way in terms of being more confident in any social or business setting with food and wine. There are less than 100 Master Sommeliers in the United States.  We are pleased to have our special M.S. Run Mumford teach this class.

Grand Tasting – Toast of Park City

An impressive gathering of domestic and international vineyards, gourmet food purveyors, live entertainment, and an array of luxury-related vendors are featured at this annual event.  Enjoy the Viking Outdoor Kitchen and cooking demonstrations on the outdoor stage as well as live music from local favorite cover band Joy & Eric. The signature event of The Classic continues to grow in popularity with over 1500 attendees anticipated sampling from approximately 500 wines and 20 restaurants.
