Park City’s Local Favorite Stew Pot Closes Its Doors This Friday

16 September 2009 By: Casey One Comment | News & Events

According to the Park Record, Park City’s local news publication, The Stew Pot will be closing it’s doors this Friday.  The Stew Pot has been located on 1375 Deer Valley Drive for the past 22 years and has remained a locals favorite for the entire duration.  Their outside patio and amazing sandwiches had a huge pull on Parkites who would frequent the friendly restaurant. The Stew Pot served amazing sandwiches, a killer burger, and incredible daily soups that will be sorely missed.  Growing up in Park City, I remember going there no less that 2 -3 times a week with my family for lunch. When there was company in town for the Summer, it would be the first place we’d go for lunch. And even as an adult, I would find myself frequenting The Stew Pot as much as I could after mountain biking, hiking, or just looking for a relaxing place to eat and gaze at the mountains.

The Stew Pot

Here’s a quick exerp from the Park Record who had a chance to speak with Stew Pot owners Danny Thomas and his wife, Toni:

“Thomas said he wanted to thank the community for 22 years of great people and said he’s not pointing any fingers as to the cause of the closing.”It was a combination of everything,” he explained. “A lot of blame can be handed around, but there’s just no need,” he said. Up until Tuesday there was hope of being able to work something out, but things didn’t work out, he explained.”

To Danny and Toni – Thank you for all the wonderful childhood memories and for creating one of the best kept secrets in town. We wish you both the best and will miss The Stew Pot!

What a great loss for Park City. We have been eating at the Stew Pot and talking with Danny since it opened. Instead of the landlord getting a rent increase in these difficult times, he/she now has a vacancy. Everyone loses.

Danny, thanks for all the excellent food and wonderful conversation.
